The process of having a root canal procedure done is also known as Endodontic Therapy. The roots of a tooth lead to a pulp chamber which houses nerve tissue, blood vessels, and other living cells. If a tooth is decayed or cracked to the point of infection of the pulp tissue, it is advised that a root canal be completed to cure the infection and save the tooth. Should this be necessary, the nerve is removed, the internal area is cleaned, sterilized and then filled. It is then necessary to have a crown placed over the tooth to prevent fracture.
